Cathedral de la Encarnacion

This behemoth basilica hails from the 16th century, it was built for two reasons (a place of worship & as a bunker to hide from pirates attacking). It has Gothic/Renaissance visual cues with an intricate entrance (Puerta Principal). It contains three naves and three chapels with a grandioso Gothic interior that will leave you stunned. What makes this Cathedral so unique is it defensive structures that give it a fortified castle feeling, with ramparts and artillery slots, with corner towers. It is great for anyone interested in Moorish history and is a fun place for families and singles to discover. Under 12’s can enter for free, and tickets are only 5 euro, which includes an audio guide.
