Masks no longer required on the streets!

Night time curfew abolished!

Are you allowed to travel to Spain from an EU Member state?
What are the local restrictions due to COVID-19?

This article has been updated last on July 1, 2021 to reflect the most recent developments and new restrictions that are in place as per today on the Costa Blanca.

The latest changes in the restrictions in the Comunidad Valenciana, where the Costa Blanca is located, imply the following.

Untill at least the 15th of July, 2021:

1. All restaurants and bars are open again. Both inside and terraces.

Closing time for terraces is 1:00 AM and Restaurants and Bars have to close at 2:00.

2. All businesses can operate as usual again within permitted times. Discos and nightlife entertainment can be open again with DJ´s, Acts etc. However, dancing is not permitted as you have to remain seated.

3. Recreational outdoor activities are permitted
Sport clubs and indoor sport facilities are open.

4. No restrictions anymore on reunions with familly and friends any more.

5. Face masks are since June 26, 2021 no longer compulsory on the streets and when seated on terraces.

Note that when you cannot maintain 1.5 meters distance a mask should be worn, also on the streets.

In interior public areas/ places open to the public a mask is still obliged.

Obligations to wear a mask are for everyone of 6 years and older.

The night time curfew is no longer in place!
You can travel freely at night in the Comunidad Valencia.

Can I travel to Spain?  Yes.

Travelling is picking up again gradually. The requirements to enter Spain are still in force and are in constant change.
At the moment a PCR test is required for anyone traveling to Spain or official proof that you have been vaccinated against COVID-19.

As the requirements change continuously we recommend you check prior to travelling on an official website of the Spanish authorities.

For example here:  http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Embajadas/LAHAYA/en/COVID19/Pages/COVID-19.aspx

The below text is the article as it was originally published on November 25, 2020 and last updated on May 25, 2021.  Further updates have not been made.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis we have spoken with many clients and investors.  Every day we speak with many people who already own a property on the Costa Blanca or are currently looking for one.

We notice there are still a lot of questions about who can and who cannot travel to Spain at the moment.

We thought it would be useful to provide some clarity.

If you have spoken to one of our team members in the past weeks or months you will know that we always underline that you can travel freely to Spain.

Many people rightly asked how do Tom and the team of nardia brokers come to that conclusion?

Well; How did we come to that conclusion?

First of all, we have seen for ourselves that many of our customers have traveled to Spain by plane or by car in recent weeks and have crossed the borders and that no one has stopped them.

Even in the first two weeks of February 2021 we have spoken with clients who have been able to travel to their second homes on the Costa Blanca.
Also, we still notice the presence of many cars with British, Belgian, Dutch, German and French license plates.

Of course we did not just jump to conclusions .....

1. The official website of the European Commission states that in order ro slow down the spread of coronavirus and protect the health and well-being of all Europeans, some travel restrictions have been necessary. The European Commission is doing its utmost to allow people to meet friends and family and to ensure free movement of citizens, goods and services – with full respect of health and safety measures. Most restrictions apply to travels from outside the European Union to an EU member state.

Traveling within Europe is clearly not prohibited.

Note that the “EU+ area” includes 30 countries: 26 out of the 27 EU Member States as well as the four Schengen Associated States: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. Ireland does not currently apply the travel restrictions.

The website of the European Commission with this information can be found here.

Please understand that we do not urge you to travel to unsafe areas. What we do think, and many with us, is that the Costa Blanca as a region is not unsafe and should not be regarded as a risk area with Spain as a whole.

IMPORTANT !

From November 30, 2021, it is mandatory to show a negative PCR test that is not older than 72 hours upon arrival in Spain.  This applies also if you arrive by car.

Travelers from countries that are seen as a risk area by Spain must be able to show such a test. The list can be seen here.

2. Is it safe there?

Numbers updated as per 19/5/2021
The Comunidad Valenciana region, where the Costa Blanca is located, is a region with over 4.9 million inhabitants and an area of 23,255 Km2 (in comparison: The Netherlands has an area of 41,543 Km2 and Belgium 30,689 Km2).Since the beginning of the Covid-19 crisis, 404.239  people in the region have been infected with the virus (this was 239,363 as per 21/1/2021 and 103,942 as per November 25, 2020), of which 395.378 have been cured ( this was 181.346  as per January 21, 2021) and unfortunately 7.411  have died (this was 3.849 as per 21/01/2021 and 2,194  as per November 25, 2020).

The area is large and it is especially important that it is not busy on the street. It’s easy to keep your distance. In addition, wearing a face mask is mandatory on the street and in shops.

Smoking
It is allowed to smoke on the streets when you can keep 2meters distance.
Smoking is not allowed in restaurants or on terraces.

Having said all the above, the impact on the society, like anywhere else, is tremendous. The positive part we notice with our clients who already own a property on the Costa Blanca is that the vast majority who have traveled to their home are very happy and feel completely safe on the street.

3. Local restrictions on the Costa Blanca

Please note that there are restrictions on site.
Since May 1 it is permitted again to travel from other Spanish regions to the Comunidad Valenciana.
National travel restrictions have been abended.

As the restrictions have been abended you can fly to Murcia airport and travel to your property in the Alicante region for example.

Face masks are mandatory on the street and in shops. Even if you are in the car with people who do not live / stay at the same address, a face mask must be worn.

On the street and at home it is allowed to meet with groups of 10 people.

Everyone has to be home between 00:00 PM and 6:00 am.

 4. Travel back home from Spain?

You can also travel back home from Spain. After all, you can simply enter your home country. Several customers and our own family members have traveled back from Spain to the Netherlands, UK and Germany without any problems in recent weeks.

None of them have been stopped on the way at the various borders.

Some countries will have a quarantaine requirement upon your return from Spain.

You need to check in your home country if restrictions or a quarantaine requirement applies to you.

Should you require a test certificate for Covid-19 when you return home; you can order a test at one of the private hospitals on the Costa Blanca.

5. What do we expect for the coming days and weeks?

The local rules are have been eased because of the low numbers of infected and hospitalized persons in the Comunidad Valenciana and Spain in general.

We notice that life is getting back to normal with services being provided and people enjoying the excellent weather and food the area has to offer!
Restaurants, shops and other businesses are all operating as usual (closing time is 00:30 at night).

We expect a further ease by September of the few remaining lockdown restrictions to the point where there is no curfew at night and nightlife/ entertainment can reopen again.

Country borders will not be closed again. Should there be a sudden increase in COVID-19 infections it is possible that authorities limit traveling to certain cities or regions.

At this moment we understand that the restrictions in Spain and the Comunidad Valenciana are less of a limitation than in many Northern European Countries.
As before, my advice at the moment is; if you are not bothered by the remaining restrictions on location, feel free to come to the Costa Blanca, feel safe and enjoy the beautiful climate and pleasant life style.
